Tanzania’s most beautiful and remote areas. Currently, much of the Ruaha National Park remains unexplored. As a result, a safari through these preserved landscapes gives the impression of a private adventure and a one-of-a-kind experience.

Ruaha is home to 10.000 elephants (the most of any national park in eastern Africa), and is also an excellent park for lions, guepards, leopards, and, though more difficult to observe, licaones. We can also see buffalo, zebra, Defassa antelopes, impalas, giraffes, Hartebeest Lichtenstein ruano, and sable antelopes, as well as larger and smaller kudu. For birdwatchers, Ruaha has over 500 different species, and it’s easy to spot Goliat, the fisher’s martin, the cálao, the abubilla madera verde, abejaruco, the sunbird, cigüeñas, chorlitos with white heads, and the nocturnal lomo garza.

The National Park of Ruaha is one of Tanzania’s most spectacular and impressive parks.

Located in Tanzania’s heart, this spectacular park (the country’s second largest) protects a diverse range of wildlife in a unique and unexplored environment. Its source of life is the Ruaha River, a haven for all types of wildlife, where you will find some of Africa’s most representative species, including antelopes, kudus, antelopes, elephants, buffalo and giraffe. The predators also are a large family: one of lions, guepards, leopards, rescued dogs, manchadas and rayadas; all that reign in the swamp.

Aside from large mammals and carnivores, the Ruaha National Park is home to numerous bird species, some of which are endemic to the region, such as the cacatas de cuello amarillo. Mancha.

Tanzania, like the rest of the country (?), has two airports (did u mean seasons?). The dry season lasts from mid-May to mid-December and is ideal for observing large mammals and predators. Furthermore, the rainy season from January to April is ideal for observing wildlife, birds, wildflowers, and an abundance of foliage. The most popular activity in the Ruaha National Park is to spend the day and night in a 4×4 with an English-speaking guide.

Do you need more information on how to plan your trip to Tanzania, including the Park?

Mahale

Mount Mahale National Park (Swahili: Milima ya Mahale) is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in the western part of the country. (The other is near the Gombe River National Park, made famous by explorer Jane Goodell.) Another unusual feature of the park is that it is one of the few in Africa that can be explored on foot. We can also enjoy activities such as snorkeling, exploring the corals in the area, and also interestingly visit the city of Saadani. When it became a protected area, the Saadani National Park introduced new species of animals that are part of today’s faunal diversity: wildebeest, zebras and baboons sharing a common place with such other commonly-found animals as the buffalo, giraffe, lion, wild dog and others… We can also find permanent populations of elephant and Roosevelt blackbuck.

Dolphins are sometimes sighted close to shore, and the strait between Tanzania and Zanzibar is home to migrating whales in October and November. Green turtles can also be seen at Madete Beach in the north.

Saadani National Park is dominated by acacia forests, coastal scrub and miombo forests with mangroves around the mouth of the Wami River. We also find several species of palm trees, among them the mysterious “walking palm” (a palm tree that goes in search of the sun).

In the small town of Saadani we can see the ruins of a fort built by Arab slaves in the last (as in, 20th century?). A fantastic landscape that can only be experienced in Tanzania, the Serengeti offers a unique setting for wildlife viewing. See impressive herds of buffalo and zebra accompanying migrating wildebeests, rhino, elephant families, antelope, giraffe, lions, cheetahs, leopards and more… The reserve is an ideal refuge to observe wildlife in its purest form. When there are no other people around, you can feel so free that you might be the only one enjoying the beautiful scene.

In the dry season, the steppe landscape is tanned golden by the sun; and after the wet season, the acacia forest turns into a blanket of green full of showy flowers. As for the timing of the great migration, the exact time and route is unknown, but they start migrating from the Masai Mara to the Serengeti in October-November. Later, they return to the Masai Mara again in April-November, June (?). During these months (around January) one of the greatest spectacles of nature takes place. This is nothing less than the breeding season when thousands of wildebeest and zebra primates (like monkeys?) synchronize the birth of their young, like a biological clock. It is quite an interesting sight for visitors as it is rich in predator food and will please hobbyists on hunting trips. Viajes Etnias advises everyone who wants to travel to this part of the world to enjoy these places.

The Serengeti has a wide range of accommodations; from lodges to tented camps, all to easily meet all of your needs. We recommend camping because it offers a more private environment, avoids crowds, is better located within the park, and offers a unique experience in nature.

Manyara

Lake Manyara National Park, halfway between the Tarangire and Ngorongoro craters, admires one of the most beautiful places in Africa.

Its name comes from a plant that grows in the area and is used for medicinal purposes by the Masai people. The crater floor is only 160 square kilometers wide, and despite its small size, it is home to about 30,000 animals, with a high density of predators.

The crater is home to approximately 25,000 large mammals. It has several primary species calling it home: the zebra, wildebeest (almost half of all animals), Grant’s and Thompson’s antelope, buffalo, bushbuck, swallow. As we ride, you will see that giraffes stay away from craters because they don’t have enough food in the treetops, while wildebeests compete directly with other wildebeests. A strange but notable case with the elephants is that there are almost exclusively male elephants.

Herds of breeding females, calves, and some males of most species have difficulty finding suitable food around the crater. The shores of Lake Tanganyika in western Tanzania house three national parks known for their populations of wild chimpanzees, where research is conducted on chimpanzee behavior and lifestyle.

The Gombe Stream National Park, on the shores of Lake Tanganica, is one of the best places to see this species. But it is small, covering only about 50 square kilometers, making it one of the best small national parks in Tanzania. This national park has become a very popular tourist attraction due to its easy access. It also features parks with dense tropical jungle surrounded by beaches. The clear water makes it a unique and incredible experience.

This park is where Jane Goodall studied the chimpanzees and is one of the areas where the National Geographic Society has made several documentaries. It is the smallest park in Tanzania, but one of the least explored, with a walk through the forest that makes it a unique experience and surrounded by white sand beaches with incredible mountainous backgrounds.

Chimpanzees are the centerpiece of Gombe Stream. These mammals are unique and the opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat and daily life is an experience not to be missed.

Most of the wildlife found in the Gombe River are primates. In addition to the famous chimpanzees, you can see olive baboons, green and blue-tailed monkeys.

Leopards and bushbuck also live in the jungles, as do vultures and fishing eagles. The Gombe Stream National Park is ideal for safaris, and you can cool off by swimming in the numerous streams that cross the park along the way.

The best times to visit Gombe are during the dry season from June to October and the short rainy season in January and February.”

Tarangire

Tarangire National Park has one of the highest densities of elephants in Tanzania, and the scarce vegetation dotted with majestic baobabs and acacias makes the park unique and special.

Located about 120 km from the city of Arusha, the river, known as the Tarangire River, flows throughout the site and creates a rich habitat for wildlife during the dry season. For all these reasons, it can be considered more of a landscape park than a wildlife park.

Its name can mean Mount of Light or Mount of Power, but it is actually the ‘Roof of Africa’. Kilimanjaro is the highest peak on the African continent, reaching a summit of 5,895 meters (19,336 feet).

It is also one of the most accessible mountains in the world, and many tourists lay claim to this mountain through exhilarating climbs. Climb Kilimanjaro, the highest volcanic massif in Africa, consisting of three extinct volcanoes, Kibo at 5,895m and Mawenzi at 5,149m. and Shirah at 3,962m. You will have to take some precautions, but it is not complicated.

The route usually lasts from 5 to 7 days, but it is not recommended in April and May. This is because the road gets muddy due to the rain, making progress very difficult. There are several routes to the Kibo crater at an altitude of 5,895 m. The most popular are the Machame and Marangu lines, the latter being easier than the former. Kilimanjaro National Park rises steadily from low cultivated slopes through the lush montane forests that are home to elephants, leopards, buffalo, antelope and several species of primates. Located in western Tanzania, near the border with Zambia, Katavi covers an area of 2,250 square kilometers and is the third largest park in the country, but is among the least visited. The Katavi Game Reserve was established in 1951 and became a national park in 1974.

The Katavi National Park is immersed in wild savanna forests, home to elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, and more than 400 species of birds. Its geography is characterized by its location on a plateau between Lake Katavi to the north and Lake Chala to the southeast. The lakes are connected by the Katuma River and a vast swamp that flows into Lake Rukwa.

Its name comes from the legendary hunter ‘Katabi’, whose soul is said to dwell in the tamarind tree, and where locals place offerings to seek blessings.

Reserva Natural de Selous

The Selous Game Reserve covers an area of over 50,000 square kilometers, making it the largest non-polar reserve in the world. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and covers almost 6% of Tanzania’s territory. Selous is located in central-southern Tanzania, between 130 and 500 kilometers southwest of Dar es Salaam. It is adjacent to Mikumi National Park and a few kilometers from Udzungwa Mountains National Park.

Selous is named after the famous hunter and conservationist Frederick Courtney Selous, who died in action during World War I. His grave is near Beho Beho Hill. In 1974, the reserve was legally established as a wildlife sanctuary. In 1994, Udzungwa Mountains National Park was established with Selous. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.

This reserve is in very good condition thanks to its isolation. Its expanse is fed by numerous rivers, the main one being the Rufiji River, which flows into the Great Ruaha and Quirombero rivers. The reserve has a wide variety of vegetation, from dense forests and bushes to lush grasslands and river swamps.

There are 2,149 different classified plant species, with the main vegetation being miombo woodlands with fire-resistant trees. The wildlife here is impressive as it represents an entire third of all wildlife in Tanzania.

The Rufiji grasslands are home to elephants (approximately 75,000), lions (approximately 5,000), various species of leopards, swallows, giraffes (2,200), wildebeest (46,500), buffalo (138,000), antelopes (29,500), over 450 bird species have been recorded, including eland, reddanka, zebras (21,500), and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest (20,000).

Kitulo

The Tanzanians call the Kitulo Plateau-Bustani Ya Mungu the ‘Garden of the gods’, botanists call it the ‘Serengeti of flowers’, and it houses ‘one of the finest floral displays in the world’. The Kitulo National Park is located in southern Tanzania and covers an area of 4,129 square kilometers (159 square miles).

Kitulo is truly a botanical wonder, home to a total of 350 species of endemic plants, including 45 terrestrial orchids, all of which present an impressive display of diverse wildflowers and a wonderful landscape during the rainy season, becoming one of the World’s Best Floral Exhibitions. In 2005, the Tanzanian government declared it a national park, making it the first national park in Tanzania. This was primarily intended to protect Tanzania’s flora, as the illegal orchid trade was growing, and development with Zambia had long threatened its disappearance.

The Kitulo National Park stretches about 2,600 meters (8,500 feet) between the rugged peaks of the Kipengele, Poroto, and Livingstone mountain ranges. This park is a paradise for flora, bird, and hiking enthusiasts.

The Kitulo plateau is home to important endemic bird species such as Denham’s Bustard, Peregrine Falcons, raptors, and the endangered Swampland Mountain Widowbird. In particular, the lake remains mostly dry for many months of the year, which means that the flora and fauna are locally adapted to these conditions. Near Lake Eyasi, you can find beautiful specimens of baobab, one of the most distinctive plants that grow in this part of the world.

The area is home to a small group of bushmen, the Hadza and the Watindiga, who hunt with bows and arrows and gather wild roots, tubers, and berries to make a living, as they did thousands of years ago. Another interesting tribe in the area is the Datoga, who also live in the forests around Eyasi. Visiting these two tribes is one of the attractions of the area. In a harsh and remote place, only the Maasai and flamingos know how to make use of the small life that inhabits it. It is located about 25 km north of Ordongyo Lengai and borders Kenya. The road to the lake is treacherous, muddy, and complicated; but the detour is worth it. Lake Natron is one of the strangest and most amazing lakes on earth. Its waters are sometimes stained red by the proliferation of algae. Here you can see the soda ash spiraling up from the depths of the underground through geysers. These spirals adorn the water’s surface like soda pop accumulating on the shore in the form of white foam.

The landscape of Lake Natron is one of the most unique and surprising in East Africa, where the Maasai people continue with their traditional way of life largely apart from modern culture. This area of Lake Natron offers an ideal setting for bird lovers to enjoy beautiful hikes, visit the Ngaresero Waterfall, and climb the Ordunyo Lengai, a still-standing, active volcano that means “Mountain of God” in Maasai.

Lake Victoria

Situated between Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, Lake Victoria is the largest tropical lake in the world (68,800 square kilometers) and the second largest freshwater lake. It was discovered in 1858 by the English explorer J. Speke and named after the Queen of England at the time it was discovered.

Lake Victoria is one of the main sources of the Nile River, which flows into Lake Albert upstream of the river known as the White Nile. The largest tributary of Lake Victoria is the Kagera River in northwest Tanzania. Considered part of the Nile, its source is the furthest point from the Mediterranean and the Kagera Nile is the second longest river in the world. Over 200 species of fish inhabit its waters and many Bantu ethnic groups primarily settle on its shores. The Ganda, Kiga, Kikuyu, Ruhya, and Maasai tribes are the origins of the Nilotic peoples. All people primarily live off fishing, agriculture, and trade thanks to numerous boats.

There are diamond and gold mines around Lake Victoria, and coffee, tea, cotton, and bananas are grown around it. There are many islands with very specific environmental conditions, such as Ukerewe, Ucala, Rubondo, Bambile, Mfangano, Rusinga, Kome, Bugala, and the Sese Islands in Uganda.

The densely populated coastal areas with over 3,000 km of coastline, such as Entebbe in Uganda, Kisumu in Kenya, and Mwanza in Tanzania, have important urban centers and ports. The buildings are not very tall, with many of the tallest of them being four stories maximum, except for a dozen skyscrapers, and are painted in faded colors that shimmer in the strong Tanzanian sunlight. Dar es Salaam means “haven of peace” in Arabic and was originally a fishing village founded by King Zanzibar in 1857. Today it is a modern city and seat of the government of Tanzania. Home to one and a half million people, the streets are full of indefatigable shoe shiners. Begin your city tour at the dhow mooring and immerse yourself in the working environment of loading and unloading goods like coffee, rice and salt. It is a good program. Remember that taking pictures is not allowed.

Kariakoo Market is the perfect place to complete the vision. It is located between Mkinguni Road and Tandamuti. There’s plenty of entertainment as you wander through the fish and vegetable stalls. You can also buy baskets and kanga.

Walking through the Mnazi Mjoja park is a great experience. In this environment you can enjoy street shows by the indigenous people who perform their music, singing and dancing. However, one of the park’s biggest draws are the stalls set up by tribal wizards selling their remedies for everything from colds to syphilis to colic. Within this park is the Uhuru Monument, or more properly: the Freedom Monument.

Most interesting is the National Museum, which exhibits archaeological remains, pieces from the German colonial period as well as wood carvings, jewelry, clothing from different tribes, and musical instruments. Nyumba Ya Sanaa, the House of Art, is a private artisan workshop producing beautiful handicrafts including wood carvings, paintings, intricate multi-coloured fabrics, batik cloth, musical instruments and a variety of Tanzanian traditional dress.

Another important place is the State House, the residence of the president. The building is a mixture of Arabic and African styles and its foundations are taken from a German palace. Although it is not possible to visit the interior, it is worth visiting from the outside and strolling through the farms that surround it. It also has a small area where different types of animals and birds live. For shopping, head to the area between Samoa Street, India Street and Library Street. Visit the Caribou Fair on Bagamoyo Road where you can see and buy exquisite Tanzanian handicrafts (traditional dance Sundays 3-5). In Mwenge you can see the workshops that shape Makonde ebony pieces and observe the work of these artisans. Literally, “Dodoma” is derived from idodom, as in cigogo meaning “is soaked.” The name actually comes from a folktale. It is said that an elephant drank from a spring near the city. However, he got stuck in the mud on the beach and slowly sank. Residents watching the spectacle exclaimed “idodomya!” And since that time the city was called Idodomya after the drowned elephant. Dodoma has a population of over 400,000 and an area of 418 square kilometers.

Nyerere Square: This square is located in the city of Dodoma. In the center of the square is the statue of Julius Nyerere, referring to the Tanzanian professor and politician who founded the current United Republic of Tanzania. At the time of its founding, Tanganyika was incorporated into Zanzibar. At that time, Julius Nyerere was established as the President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Gaddafi Mosque: This temple is the largest in Tanzania and the second largest on the African continent after the Gaddafi Mosque in Uganda. It received this name thanks to the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who financed the construction of this mosque through the World Association of Islamic Calls. Its construction was completed in 2010 and inaugurated by the then president: Jakaya Kikwete. To give you an idea of its size, it has the capacity to house up to 3,000 faithful.

Jamaat Khana Mosque (Ismailia): This mosque is located next to an Anglican church. It was built in 1954 and is used exclusively by the Ismaili Muslims of the Dodoma community. It features a British-inspired neoclassical design.

Dodoma University: This research center is public and opened in 2007. It is located 8 km from the capital city of Dodoma in the Shimoaga district. It is an intriguing building to look at and you’ll be able to absorb the atmosphere that prevails there.

Streets and Buildings: If there is something unique about this city, it is its ability to blend in with its streets. This mountainous island is about 85 kilometers long and 20 to 30 kilometers wide.

Most of the population lives on agriculture in the fertile north and west of the island. The eastern part of the island is dry and covered with coral reefs that surround the white sandy beaches like the sky, making it ideal for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts.

A must-visit are the small villages scattered throughout the island, where African customs interweave with Asian and tribal ones. The beach is paradisiacal with palm trees, coconut trees, bananas, mangoes, pepper trees, and lilacs.

Another feature of this island is the charm and history of Stone Town, known as the cultural center of Zanzibar, which has hardly changed in the last 200 years.

It was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000 for being one of the most important centers of Swahili culture. A walk through Stone Town is an exciting experience, with winding alleys, bustling markets, mosques, and Arab-style houses that transport us to the era of explorers and sultans intoxicated with the smell of exotic spices.

Walking through Stone Town, you can experience the peculiar market, local stalls selling fresh fish and vegetables, coral houses, mud huts, and old English clubs like Casa de Africa, which despite its age, is still a great place to enjoy cocktails. Houses with wooden ridge caps, such as City Hall, the old fort built by the Portuguese in 1700, the so-called House of Wonders, an impressive four-story building with huge terraces, Sultan Bargash from the late 19th century, and the Museum of Natural History.

Its unique architecture and structure of coral stone buildings and narrow streets allow you to feel the influence of different cultures and traditions brought by different inhabitants of the city. Each building, its carved windows, doors, walls tell its own story.

Mafia

Mafia Island, lesser-known but equally fascinating, is located just 25 kilometers off the coast of Tanzania and 160 kilometers south of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean. Mafia Island has been a marine park since 1995 and is the largest protected area in East Africa. Mafia covers over 800 square kilometers of surface area between its southwest coast and Joel Bay, and it’s beautiful reefs host over 400 species of fish and a wide variety of corals.

It is a spectacular landscape for diving enthusiasts. The waters surrounding Mafia Island harbor unique tropical marine habitats, including coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, lagoons, and coastal forests. In addition, Mafia is a nesting site for green and hawksbill sea turtles, and these waters are also home to important sharks, barracudas, bass, needlefish, swordfish, mantas, moray eels, and triggerfish. There is no doubt that this island is a marvel with its abundance of marine fauna.

Mafia is the richest and closest island to Zanzibar. Its fictional name comes from the Arabic and means “protect.” This island is where slaves captured in the area were gathered and stored in caves. Approximately 40,000 men and women were detained and bought in the infamous slave market each year.

This situation ended only in 1873, when Lloyd Matthews signed a treaty to abolish slavery. The island, along with Chol, Jibondo, and Juani, is part of a small archipelago that has become a peaceful and lonely place.

The beaches of Mafia Island are like paradise, and the transparent waters harbor colorful fish swimming among the beautiful coral reefs. In addition to water activities as the main attractions of the island, you can also see the remains of a 15th-century mosque, ruins from the 13th century, and the remains of a German colony in Mafia. Its small capital, Kilindoni, is a quaint and colorful place.”

Pemba

The island of Pemba is located to the east of Tanga on the mainland of Tanzania, about 80 kilometers from the island of Zanzibar (Unguja). Pemba Island is smaller than Anguja, but it is mountainous and lush with vegetation, hence the name “Chang Qingdao”.

Known for its spectacular tides and the abundant and diverse marine life abounding in its turquoise waters, this Tanzanian island is an unforgettable view. The island of Pemba is covered by steep hills filled with palm trees, lilacs, rice fields, and dense natural forests such as the Ngezi Forest in the north. The coast of the island of Pemba has many beautiful and untouched beaches, and the northern tip of the island is one of the best places in the world for diving. So far, it receives few tourists due to the difficulty of accessing its beaches. W/hich, combined with limited infrastructure, makes the island a place of virginity and wild environment.

.kb-row-layout-id_dbf56d-4f >
